THE BEST RENTAL APARTMENT BATHROOM DECORATING IDEAS
01. Get rid of ALL the ugly hardware
I mean, it's a fact that rental apartments come with the nastiest hardware choices! All of my hardware were run-down & overall very outdated.
And even tough you might think it's not that bad, it is ACTUALLY that bad! Your choice of hardware can basically make or break the look, because it's super noticeable!
So get rid of ALL the hardware in your bathroom that your landlord thought would be a nice choice! Prioritize classy, evergreen choices: brushed nickel, brass, silver or black metal!
Simply unscrew the current ones & install the new ones. Couldn't be easier! And most of the time, you don't even need to get your landlord's permission for this!
02. Use baskets for storage & decoration
One of the simplest ways to instantly elevate a rental bathroom is to get a bunch of decorative baskets! Not only are decorative baskets great storage solutions, but they also have high aesthetical value, so they add to the beauty of your space!
Take a look at the photo above for inspiration! Grace has used a large woven basket to store toilet paper rolls, which is a genius idea! Not to mention how by putting the rolls in that cute basket, she could instantly beautify something that's not conventionally considered cute.
Recreate the look for yourself! Store towels, cleaning supplies or even your laundry in decorative baskets!
03. Freshen up boring flooring
I bet you know about peel & stick wallpaper. But did you know that peel & stick floor tiles exist as well? And covering boring flooring with them is one of the most genius rental apartment bathroom decorating ideas ever!
Not only will you be able to hide scratches, stains & generally your run-down flooring with the help of bold floor tiles. BUT! You'll also be able to lend a bit of personality to your super basic, lifeless rental bathroom in a renter-friendly way!
04. Install exciting peel & stick wallpaper
And if we're talking everything peel & stick, let's also mention wallpapers! I LOVE using peel & stick wallpaper anywhere in my apartment. But they just hit different in the bathroom!
Applying a fun, exciting pattern onto your bathroom walls will result in an extravagant look! So instead of having to stare at those plain white walls, you'll have a strong focal point to admire!
Whether it's abstract lines, flowers or the same brush strokes as you can see above, any type of wallpaper will look gorgeous in your bathroom!
05. Switch out basic light Shades
Similarly to hardware, our landlords tend to choose the ugliest, most outdated light fixtures. I'm not sure why that is, but it's super easy to fix!
If you're not content with the lamp shade, you can simply remove it. There are different types of light fixtures & depending on the type itself, you'll either need to unscrew the shade from the fixture or loosen a few screws that hold it in place.
However, if you'd like to completely get rid of the light fixture as well, you'll need to contact your landlord to ask for their permission! But it's totally doable! Here's an easy & trustworthy guide you should read if you wanna do it yourself. But if you ask me, you should definitely reach out to an electrician!
06. Use linens to your advantage
I always say it's best to work with what you've already got, instead of splurging on new items! Using linens properly instead of getting tons & tons of new decorative items is one of the most effective rental apartment bathroom decorating ideas EVER!
Just take a quick look at the photo above & you'll know exactly what I mean! See how stunning that tiny bathroom looks with the help of high-quality linens? The boho shower curtain & the tastefully placed towels give any boring rental bathroom a quick refresh!
07. Switch out the showerhead or Shower System
You'd be surprised how impactful the tiniest details can be in a rental bathroom! Simply by switching out your current showerhead / shower system, you'll be able to add so much to your space aesthetically!
Once again, you'll probably need to ask for your landlord's permission if you wanna change the whole shower system, since it requires lots of tinkering. But if you only want the showerhead gone, you're good to go without asking!
I personally LOVE black metal & brushed brass shower systems, and I think that they suit any type of bathroom perfectly! They're super elegant & evergreen, try them for yourself!
08. Embelish your walls with art
Decorating your walls with art or photos is self-evident. For any room other than your bathroom. I don't know why, but people just don't think a bathroom should have wall art for some reason.
Don't be one of those people! Artwork looks just as stunning in your rental bathroom as anywhere else in your apartment!
Prioritize framed printables of the sea, surfboards or a beach sunset, and boho wall art: wall baskets, a hanging macrame or a sunburst mirror! These will make your bathroom look & feel much more refreshing and calming!
09. Add a rug that complements the space
And finally, I'd like to mention the importance of a well-chosen rug! Not only is a cute rug that fits your space perfectly functional, but it's also a great way to decorate!
I always recommend boho distressed runner rugs. They just look so stunnin! They're going to elevate your whole rental bathroom design! Without having to sacrifice your security deposit, of course!
